About the Journal

Our submission period is currently open. 

Please review the following guidelines:

The Drunken Lovely Bird accepts submissions in all forms, including but not limited to-- poetry, fiction, essays, and (creative) non-fiction-- from undergraduate students across Canada.

Submission Instructions:

  • Please select the relevant form of your submission (poetry, fiction, non-fiction).

There are a few components of the submission process that we cannot change due to our software. We please ask you to disregard the 

  • abstract (place N/A in the text box)
  • all of section 4 titled "for the editor."

Additionally, for the "bio statement," please include a 50-word (max.) bio in 3rd person that would appear in the journal if you were to be selected. 

Please keep in mind the following guidelines for submission: 

  • We will strictly not engage with work developed using generative A.I. 
  • We will not publish work that is racist, ableist, homophobic, or derogatory in any way. That being said, we give space to underrepresented voices. Good writing treats identity categories with care and intelligence. 

Poetry

  1. Do NOT put your name on the work submitted to ensure a fair selection by the editorial board.
  2. Submit up to 3 poems, no more than 5 pages. 

Prose:

  1. Do not put your name on the work submitted to ensure a fair selection by the editorial board. 
  2. Submit one piece, double-spaced, no more than 5 pages.

Please note that we do not currently provide feedback if your submission has been rejected.
